Star Wars 7: A title and maybe even a trailer Awaken?

Star-Wars-The-Force-Awakens

We finally have a title for the next episode which up until this point was simply Star Wars 7. The news dropped Thursday on Twitter and sent a bit of confusion at first as fans didn’t know if this was the official title or not. But sure enough, the title was legit and our new Star Wars film officially is called Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. At first I didn’t really know what to make of the title but the more I hear it and say it aloud (no, I’m not crazy) the more it’s growing on me. It hearkens back to the feel of the original films yet has an air of mystery to it. What actually has awoken? Why was it asleep? Does this stand for something else? More than anything, the release of the title just adds fuel to the speculation fire and grows excitement and anticipation for the film’s release next year. While the film is still about a year away, I do believe that announcing the title is a big deal and here’s why.

With the title being released and principal shooting of the film being complete, it opens the flood gates for advertising for the film, even at this early of a stage. Disney is a smart company and know the golden egg that they have in Star Wars. They will generate as much hype as they possibly can leading up to the film’s release. Even when in the hands of George Lucas, it was no secret Star Wars was everywhere: advertising, merchandising and commercials. And I expect no different now on a movie that wants that attention. Disney wants to establish the good name of Star Wars and show they can turn the franchise around after the prequels. So, while it is just a title. I look at it as the small pebble that starts an avalanche; eventually information and ads will pop up for the movie, culminating with (DRUM ROLL) THE FIRST TRAILER!!!!

A trailer? Isn’t it too soon Movieguy17? Like you said, it’s still a year out. Very true but like I said, Disney will want to grab people’s attention and want to get them excited for this movie earlier rather than later. That’s why I think we’ll get a trailer for Episode 7 THIS YEAR! Now, I don’t think it’ll be a full two and a half minute trailer like Avengers: Age of Ultron but a short teaser. Nothing special but enough to get people excited. Something along the lines of showing the company logos will the Force music plays then some slow shorts with a voice over with the trailer ending in a close up of an old Luke Skywalker dressed as an aging Jedi. Now when do I expect this trailer if it is this year? To find the answers we need to go Into the Woods. See what I did there? Not my best I know, but with Disney bringing this musical to the big screen this Christmas, it would be around the perfect time to show a trailer. Plus it would help the numbers for Into the Woods if people knew ahead of time that a new Star Wars movie trailer was ahead of it. And Disney can never turn down some extra money and publicity on one of it’s films.

Shazam: Who should play DC’s famous hero?

DC recently announced that they would be creating a Shazam movie and with them recently announcing their full slate of films coming up, I thought it appropriate to revisit this film. I figured this film would be good to discuss because it asks the big question: who will be playing the Hero? For future films, we already know who is playing Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and The Flash. We also got official word a while back that even the antagonist fo Shazam, Black Adam, had been cast and will be played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. But what’s a villian without a hero? So, I take a look at who I believe should be cast as Shazam and why I think he would be a great choice. Without further ado, SHAZAM!!!!!! (Insert drum roll here)

Staples Center

PATRICK WARBURTON!!!

I know what you’re thinking, “Who?” While you may not see him often, you certainly hear him. He’s been the voice of Kronk, Joe Swanson of Family Guy and even Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. He is also known for playing Puddy on Seinfeld and Hymie in the Get Smart movie. Yes yes these are mostly comedy works but I think that’s a strong point in Warburton’s favor. The character of Shazam is a boy who went he says a magic word, SHAZAM shocker I know, he instantly becomes a superhero. Shazam literally is a little boy in a superhero’s body! You need an actor that has the ability to portray child like attitude, wonder and excitement at his powers. Warburton really portrays this quality well in his roles.

And while he may not be as large physically as Henry Cavill’s Superman, his 6′ 2 height and large frame still can be pretty imposing. If given some training, he could bulk up and add to his already naturally superhero look. He just looks like he needs to be a superhero! I know he was a while ago as The Tick on tv but that didn’t get to see a second season. Given the right material, he could be a great hero. And don’t even get me started on that voice! I grew up listening to him as Buzz Lightyear of Star Command in the animated TV series and it was the perfect voice for a hero. All said, I would love to see Mr. Warburton become the great hero, hopefully providing a good combo with The Rock!
